this is essentially a sideways french braid, but with felicia's hair color it reminded me of a sunset. bam!
i began with a french braid starting above her left ear. i just braided sideways and down toward the bottom of her right ear.
i left a big chuck of hair on the top right side of her head out of the braid. once i wrapped the braid up with an elastic, i did tiny loose braids in the rest of the hair and pinned them at the base of the french braid.
we curled her hair and then tied a ribbon around the end! done!
the idea behind this braid was a sun shape, or a star bursting! and then it ended up looking like what would happen if Coolio's hair and Bjork's hair had a baby.
so, that's great. but Felicia rocked it anyway!

here's how this went down. it took forever, by the way. i began with a small french braid behind her bangs. i stopped the "french" part when i hit the crown of her head, and braided the rest into a regular braid. secured with a TINY BABY elastic band. then did two more french braids on the side of the center one. and then another two behind her ears. i stopped all of the braid in the center, as close to each other as possible. i did two more small french braids (going up) from her neck to the center of the "burst."
once i had all the SEVEN braids complete, i twisted each from the center into a loop. i secured the ends, pointing out, with bobby pins. more of that ill-fated "bursting" idea.
the best combination of a ballerina and a rockstar. whilst wearing this "do" .. felicia and i had a mini ballet lesson in our apartment.
because why not?
we left her bangs down for this one. i first gathered her hair into a VERY high pony.
then i split the ponytail in two sections. i braided each piece and secured the ends with an elastic band.
then i just twisted one around the base pony elastic one direction, pinned with a bobby pin. then i twisted the other braid the other direction around the base.
i secured the end at the front with bobby pins, and then hid them with a cute bow. done!
