the heart.

the heart braid.

the goal of this creation was making a heart shaped braid. i basically accomplished my goal. please forgive my rudimentary Paint skills as i demonstrate. :)

#oldschool #noshame #legit

i began by separating her hair into a top and bottom half, on a diagonal.

i french braided the top half up toward her bangs, included the bangs, then took a turn into the middle to make the rest of that half of the heart.

the i french braided the bottom half up, mirroring the top half.

i made a giant braid in the middle the heart and curled it into a bun.
topped with a bow!
enjoy!

the scorpion.

the scorpion braid.

a braid inspired by my childhood in arizona, living in fear of finding one of these nasty creatures in a shoe.

this is a nifty take on the fishtail braidread below for a little how-to description.

i began with all her hair straight down. then i separated it into two large chunks, pulling hair from by her ears.

i did essentially a fishtail braid, just on her head instead of in a ponytail.
i stopped at the base of her neck and separated the braid into three pieces. i made a little regular braid. then switched again to fishtail. then back to regular for the end of the braid.

i think it turned out pretty well!enjoy.

race to the finish.

race to the finish.

this is a pinterest inspiration. i added a checkered flag ribbon for our mutual love of racing :) it looks super cool with felicia's two-toned hair since the top half is red and the bottom half is black.

this is essentially half french braid, half regular braid.
i started on the right, grabbing all the hair off her neck.

i tried to keep the braid as loose as possible, so that it would fall in a diagonal.

i just tied the end with a pony elastic and then weaved the ribbon through it!
super easy and really pretty.

basket o'braid.

basket o'braid.

felicia said, "it looks like you literally weaved my hair." so that's when i named this creation. i majored in underwater basket weaving in college. ha. nope, but i did take a full semester of Feldenkrais.

i digress. here's the braid.

this one is very similar to waterfall peasant, but i didn't leave the pony tail braid hanging over her shoulder at the end. instead i wrapped it up underneath the bottom braid and tucked it neatly away with bobby pins.

the braid begins with a waterfall braid above her right ear. i only used the hair on the top half of her head, leaving the bottom hair for the underneath french braid. make the waterfall braid across from right to left.

at the left ear, i began a french braid going back to the right, but underneath the waterfall braid.
then i tucked the tail underneath the braid.

we curled her bangs. shazam! all done.

hairbow.

THE hairbow.

enough said.

this was a lady gaga inspiration that i modified with a french braid up the back. like a corset! here's a How-To guide.

let's start!
felicia has a tremendous amount of hair, so doing the french braid up the back is a way to keep the bow securely on the top of her head.

i have her lay face down on the floor to get the french braid up the back nice and tight. again, she has a TON of hair! haha
i put the hair into a HIGH pony and then make a lazy-girl (circa1999) bun with the ponytail.
from there, i braid the hair that isn't in the bun, then separate the bun in half and bring the braid through the middle. secure with bobby pins.

i wrapped a cute ribbon around the pony tail to secure it more and disguise the elastic and pins.

enjoy!

backward bass clef.

the backward bass clef braid.

this experimental braid turned out looking like a backwards bass clef symbol , so that's how it got the name. it could also be known as "gorgeous stack of braids" .. but that doesn't have quite the ring. :)

i started by pinning back her bangs. then i sectioned off the top third of her hair, made a ponytail, and braided it.

i took another section of hair in the middle of her head and made that it's own braid.
then repeat for the bottom third.
i wrapped the top braid into it's own bun really high up on her head. then bobbypinned to secure it.
i took the middle braid and wrapped that around the left side of the first ponytail, and wrapped it around the bun, secured with bobbypins.
then i took the bottom braid and brought that up around the outside of the other two braids on the left. i pinned all the braids together in the same spot under the top of the clef design.

you can see the bottom braid (the black one) wrapped around the middle braid.
kind of a funky up-do :)

classic frenchie.

classic frenchie braid.

this style is an oldie, but most definitely a goodie. i did a before-bed french braid for felicia and it turned out so pretty, i wanted to put it in the blog.

here's a classic french braid, with the ponytail left un-braided. my FAV.

adventures with sock buns.

sock buns!

your favorite braid team tackles the trend of sock buns. bunnery. bunning?

this is the first try. we followed these instructions from pinterest.
felicia has SO much hair that the bun came out humongous.

try #2! we call this one Cheerio hair. i just made two sock buns, one on top of the other.
try #3! i added my experience from making buns in synchronized swimming with some braid knowledge. this was my favorite.
instead of rolling the sock donut down the ponytail from the top, i just made a high pony. then put the sock at the base, spread the hair out around the whole sock, then put another elastic over the top. super secure.

i took the excess hair and made three braids, then just wrapped them around the base of the bun and secured with bobby pins.

add a cute bow and you're done!
